Every three months, the Defibrio app will prompt you to run a self-test of the device, the pads, and your phone’s battery. Because the Defibrio is expected to be used infrequently, following the test schedule is important to maintaining the device.
To test, open the app and tap “Not an Emergency,” then “Test Mode.” Tap “Start Test,”, then plug in the AED as instructed and allow the test to run. The test will evaluate your phone’s battery, the charging capabilities of the device and its ability to deliver a shock without delivering a shock.
In addition to running the self-test, you should visually examine the device and the pads to look for cracks, dents, tears in the pad pouch, or frayed wires.
Testing should only take a couple of minutes. If the test is successful, you’ll receive a confirmation message that everything is working properly. If the testing finds any problems with the device, you’ll be able to contact Defibrio for information on a solution or a replacement at no charge.
If the test finds a problem with your phone’s battery, the app will notify you and recommend replacing the battery. Contact your phone’s provider or reseller for information on replacing the battery.

In addition to scheduled checks, run the self-test:
- if the defibrillator is dropped.
- after using the defibrillator.
- when you get new pads.
- when you get a new phone.
- when there’s a new version of the Defibrio app.
- when your phone updates to a new version of the Android operating system.
