WARNING: Installing the Defibrio app is easy, but do it BEFORE an emergency! That will help avoid delays during a critical response time.
When you open the app for the first time, it will walk you through a simple set up process. This will give the app permission to power the AED and contact emergency services. The AED will not work without a correctly prepared phone.
1. Connect the attached USB cable to your phone.

2. You’ll be asked if you want to use the Defibrio app to connect to the AED, or if you trust the device, depending on your phone. Tap the circle to select the “Always open” or “Always trust” option. Then hit OK to allow the phone to connect to the AED.

3. Once the app launches, tap “Not an emergency.”

4. You’ll be asked to allow notifications. Tap “OK” then “Allow” to let the app notify you about software updates or expired pads.

5. You’ll be asked to allow the app to access calling features on your phone. Tap “Allow” to let the app call emergency services in an emergency.

6. Tap “Turn On Overlay” to open Android settings to enable overlay notifications. That will let the app take you back into its emergency flow while on a call with emergency services. To do so, toggle on permissions for Defibrio on the next screen, then tap the back button on the top left or bottom right to proceed to the next step.

7. Android sometimes “hibernates” permissions for apps that are rarely used. To prevent this, tap “Turn Off Removal,” then toggle off the setting labeled “Remove permissions if app isn’t used,” or “Manage app if unused,” or something similar depending on your version of Android. Then tap the back button on the top left or bottom right to proceed to the next step.

8. Enter the expiration date as shown on the outside of the pad pouch. (Do not open the pouch!) Then tap “Done.”

9. Provide an email and password to begin the self-test process. Your contact information is required so we can provide important news and send new pads when needed. Check the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions, then tap “Create Account.”

10. The app will prompt you to run a self-test of the AED. Tap “start test” and the app will run a test in the background.

11. Finish creating your account by entering your name, mobile number, and mailing address. Defibrio closely protects all personal information. Tap “Next” when ready.

12. Send a message to your emergency contacts and invite them to download the app as well.
Note: Having more people install the app improves the chances that someone is ready to help in case of an emergency. You should set up the Defibrio app on any compatible phone that might be available during a cardiac event in your home. Consider inviting partners, children, neighbors, caretakers, and other frequent visitors to set up the app to increase the number of people who can help in an emergency.
